Oddly enough, I started playing bass after Trombone mainly due to them both being in bass clef. My step-father was a Nashua HS music teacher and church organist. He owned a music store with my mother and I was very involved in music from a young age. While I first started with learning Nirvana and church songs, I quickly progressed to Metal, and then Jazz and played with some of the greats throughout my HS/College years.
Currently I'm playing solo Jazz shows, with a jazz and folk/rock duo, a folk/rock trio, a jazz/fusion/rock cover trio and a couple larger funk bands.
As a fellow musician once said, "Gary is a chameleon of styles, he makes the song his, without taking over." While my specialty is jazz, funk, and rock, I can gel into almost any genre, from classical to hip hop (which I also produce).
My main guitar influences are Jim Hall, Jimi, Kurt Rosenwinkel, John Scofield, Julian Lage, and my teacher over many years David Newsam.
My main bass influences are Jaco, Victor Wooten, Ron Carter, Les Claypool, and Dave Holland.
For hip hop, Kno, DJ Premier, Blockhead, El-P, and DOOM are my main influences.
